A Finger Path
AS I RESTED quietly in the Lord this morning, I saw a picture in my mind’s spiritual eye. The Lord’s pointer finger landed on the ground before me. It gently dragged through the wild terrain, effortlessly creating a trail for me to follow. A path through the wilderness of life.
I ASKED, Why a finger? Why not footprints? Why not a guiding angel? While I waited for the answer, I closed my eyes and followed the Finger path, voicing my responses.
I delight in following the path Your finger traces before me,
. . . through forest,
. . . through desert,
. . . in winter and summer,
. . . over rocks,
. . . and through deep waters.
Even in the night,
. . . where His word is a lamp to my feet,
. . . a light that illumines His finger-path,
. . . I do not lose my way.
When I feel lost, I worship You.
When I don’t understand, I choose to trust You.
Wolves bare their teeth, but You hold them at bay.
Snakes slither and scorpions squirm around my feet, but Your rod and staff protect me.
Not once do You mislead me.
Never do You abandon me.
For You cannot act against Your own Word;
Your Word has the final say.
You are the Word.
THEN HE ANSWERED
Why a finger? Because He knows this author enjoys a ‘play on words.’ He designed me to think this way and knows how to communicate personal epiphanies in ways I’ll grasp them in depth.
AN IDIOM popped into my mind.
To “Put one’s finger on something.”: to identify something exactly; to discover the exact reason why a situation is the way it is; to identify and state the essence of something—an attribute worthy only of an omniscient, omnipresent, omnipotent God.
God’s “got His finger on” my way.
GOD KNOWS the exact reasons for and identifies the essence of every situation of my life.
Where I can’t quite put my finger on something, His finger is already there.
Do you see His finger on your life?
How do you receive God’s epiphanies?
