Swamp Monsters and New Beginnings
The Swamp Inside Me
At first, I felt awful. Chills, headache, fatigue, hot flashes… but all those symptoms let me know the detox was working. The nasty swamp was beginning to drain, and all the toxins with it. Hoorah!
During a three-hour session, my wellness specialist had checked every organ and every system in my body, to the deepest level possible. I watched the dot on the monitor/graph rise and dip as it registered the health battle going on inside my body. The most aggressive monster in the land was aflatoxin.
No, I’m not exactly sick, plus I exercise regularly and love eating veggies. Despite my healthy lifestyle, I know that certain types of trauma can have dangerous effects on body, mind, and soul, so I decided to do a major cleanse as part of maintaining my temple. By major, I mean 2 full months of killing off the toxins, bad bacteria, viruses, pesticides, molds, amoebas, infections, and all their cousins.
Say what?? Yep, that list reflects a fairly normal readout of the insides of the average American. Thankfully, God gave us cures in nature to heal us—the sort without side effects.
One undeniable factor
Forgiveness is key to your body staying in healthy balance. Many women in my situation suffer greatly — high blood pressure, heart disease, diabetes, and often cancer. In fact, I didn’t even attempt a body detox until I was convinced that all forgiveness and emotional pain issues were cleared up.
Obedience pays off. The extent of the trauma was so great, that I’m 99% sure that forgiving my offenders, as God commands, is what helped keep me healthy and cancer-free.
Even John Hopkins now declares unforgiveness as a cause of sickness. According to research by Dr. Michael Barry, a pastor and the author of the book, The Forgiveness Project: “Of all cancer patients, 61 percent have forgiveness issues, and of those, more than half are severe.”
(If there is reader interest, I might post a blog specific to how I partnered with God as He guided me through the freedom process. A clean heart and conscience does a body good.)
Through this detox process, God opened my eyes to a spiritual reality. The thought crossed my mind: I’m seeing this detox through to the end until these long-time toxins are completely extinguished and cannot rise up to bite again.
And I sensed the Spirit whisper, That’s what I told the Israelites a few thousand years ago after their 40 years in the wilderness, “But if you don’t drive out the inhabitants of the land before you, those you allow to remain will become thorns in your eyes and in your sides; they will harass you in the land where you will live,” Numbers 33:55
I’ve got a fresh start in a new land. Maybe you are in the same place. In the beginning, I couldn’t imagine what starting life over from scratch would bring. Bravery required. But now I know … a taste of joy and gladness.
Revive us again, O God!
I know you will! Give us a fresh start!
Then all your people will taste your joy and gladness.
Pour out even more of your love on us!
Reveal more of your kindness and restore us back to you!
Psalm 85:6-7 (TPT)
Detoxing the temple, thoroughly:
Are there any lingering monsters you still need to drive out of your land?
Did you start with forgiveness?
Be brave! And persevere to the end.
