J.A.- Your life has pretty much changed overnight. One day you’re a victim of sex trafficking and the next you’re living freely in a world you had only read about.
CHIARA- My life today well exceeds my mother’s dream for me. But “freedom” is not what I originally thought it was. I’ve got a long ways to go. Digging into my my childhood is not pretty.

J.A.- What’s your definition of freedom?
CHIARA: I used to believe I’d be free if I could escape Omeàla, a wretched hell hole of an island. Or if my stepfather, Max, was out of my life. Now my counselor tells me freedom is not the absence of things or people, but the presence of Something . . . meaning the Holy Spirit.
J.A.- That is a stretch for the mind. Incidentally, I just read this quote by a reader on Amazon that made me want to REREAD book 1, Destiny Defied.
