Sharpen Your POV for 2019
For the Writer & the Non-Writer
~Heavenly notes from the editor’s heart~
In fiction, I urge writers to master the concept of POV, or point of view. Which character is telling the story and how do they see their world? How do they interpret their circumstances? Choose the character that has the most at stake, the most to lose, and write from inside his/her head and heart. Turn up the trouble and the passion. Write in a way that makes me feel as if I am in your story world, experiencing life as your character.
Today’s readers generally prefer to feel, taste, smell, and hear everything that’s happening, as though they are actually part of the story and not just reading about it. So bring them inside the character’s head. (Photo via Pixabay).
For the non-fiction author, I want to know how you know what you know and what gives you authority to speak. The more transparent you are with me on the page, the better. Openly share your real-life experiences to convince me (the reader) that you understand my convictions, feel my struggle, or feel my grief, and then persuade me to take action.
Give me that coffeeshop feel where we’re sitting across from each other over a latte and helping each other through a similar struggle. Because if your message doesn’t resonate in my soul, I’ll think you’re faking (or that you needed an editor to bring your work to life. Click here for a good one. (Photo via Pixabay).
But the highest point of view is the grandest of all!
In my personal story, I’m the character with the most at stake, but should I trust my own finite thoughts regarding my earthly matters?
Although I live on a physical plane, the miracle of grace grants me full access to the mind of Christ, whose character is trustworthy. Faith then stirs me to advance toward the crown awaiting every one who endures.
Is 2019 your year for all-around health? Mine, too! And since good health begins in the mind, this higher POV gives me a healthier view of my life and of the world as it comes from the Creator’s perspective. Nothing could be grander.
On the flip side, a mind set solely on earthly things leads to spiritual death. I desire a mind that’s control by the Spirit that finds life and peace. The first fights against God’s plan and direction, while the latter empowers me to live freely and abundantly beyond my wildest imagination.
Is this all gained by merely attending church?
Do religious traditions get me there?
No. Thank God. That would mean survival, success, and prosperity are my burdens of responsibility. Zero faith required. (Photo via Pixabay)
Instead, I invite you to join me it connecting deeper to the Spirit of the One Who carries my burdens. And here’s why:
- His thoughts are profoundly deep, yet also the highest.
- He treads on the heights and reveals His thoughts to mankind.
- His thoughts toward us are too numerous to count.
- The Spirit makes God’s unknowable mind known to us.
If we ignore this higher point of view, are we not reduced to existential thinking, meaning life will always be in chaos and nothing can ever be put right—-a spirit of hopelessness? Or worse, nihilism, believing our life is meaningless and futile?
Friend, if we don’t actively pursue the Spirit of God and fill our minds with the Word of truth, we will by default succumb to worldly philosophies that kill, steal, and destroy God’s intended goodness, joy, and abundance.
God wants you to feel, taste, smell, and hear everything that’s happening from His perspective, for you are part of His story.
Can you not discern this new day of destiny
breaking forth around you?
The early signs of my purposes and plans
are bursting forth.
The budding vines of new life
are now blooming everywhere.
The fragrance of their flowers whispers,
“There is change in the air.”
Arise, my love, my beautiful companion,
and run with me to the higher place.
For now is the time to arise and come away with me.
Arise! Be brave. And 2019 will be your best year yet.
Happy New Year from J.A.!
