Trash the Kryptonite

The kryptonite
Kryptonite: (Superman’s ultimate weakness); anything that causes someone’s ultimate weakness. Something that weakens the otherwise invulnerable hero
PHEW! Even though I’m no superhero, it’s still good to know my kryptonite is dissolvable and defeat-able. Oh, yes, I have a kryptonite, and so do you. You know, that ‘thing’ that causes ultimate weakness. And it shows up at the most inconvenient times. Our kryptonite is an insidious little devil (no pun intended).
HEAVEN plants word pictures everywhere. In nature. In people. In advertisements. In songs. Spiritual matters that are “happening” around us often disguise themselves in the physical, speaking to anyone who has ears to hear and eyes to see. I love the mystery and searching out a truth.
MOVIES are a great example, and superhero movies offer some interesting glimpses into spiritual matters. For now, I’ll pick on Superman. If we can get into the mystery, Clark Kent’s personal devastating weakness can reveal a reality about ourselves.

Our kryptonite
…and the motivation to eradicate it.
It draws divine opposition James 4
- Draws God’s hatred Proverbs 16
- Leads to disgrace Proverbs 11
- Blocks wisdom Proverbs 11
- Leads to destruction Proverbs 18
- Deceives us into believing we’ve got life made when we don’t 1John
Kryptonite causes relational dysfunction and a lack of social favor Psalm 138
- It births in us a bad habit of leading others astray Proverbs 10
- A fool is better off than one with this kryptonite Galatians 6 Prov 26
- It renders us incapable of sincerely loving others 1 Tim 6
God distances Himself from the kryptonite keepers Psalm 138
Keepers of this kryptonite are talked about in the Last Days (unfavorably) 2Timothy
You’re bound not for glory, but for eventual humiliation. Dun dun dun…
Have you guessed what this kryptonite is?
The good news:
- We can lay it down.
- Starve it.
- Disown it.
- We can hurl it back to its place of origin: John 8:43-45
We can get rid of it — if we really want to.
Some people prefer to keep their kryptonite (and they’re probably not reading this blog).
But whoever disowns it, God will exalt that person in due time. He’ll empower you to do great things of eternal value and live out your destiny. THAT’S PRETTY AWESOME!
Yes, you guessed the kryptonite: Pride
Reread the list of its motivations-to-eradicate. They’re profound when taken in all at once. (Profoundly disturbing?)
But let him who boasts boast in this, that he understands and knows Me, that I am the Lord who practices steadfast love, justice, and righteousness in the earth. For in these things I delight, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 9:24

Paul made it sound simple to kill the kryptonite:
To understand and intimately know Christ Phil2
Yikes! If Jesus did it, then I guess we can too.
And I have yet to find an excuse not to.
