Make Me Understand
PSALM 1-1-9
When all courage is gone, and grief over takes me…
ד daleth
25 MY soul clings to the dust;
… REVIVE me according to Your word.
26 I HAVE declared my ways, and You answered me;
… TEACH me Your statutes.
27 MAKE me understand the way of Your precepts;
… SO shall I meditate on Your wonderful works.
28 MY soul melts from heaviness;
… STRENGTHEN me according to Your word.
29 REMOVE from me the way of lying,
… AND grant me Your law graciously.
30 I HAVE chosen the way of truth;
… YOUR judgments I have laid before me.
31 I CLING to Your testimonies;
… O LORD, do not put me to shame!
32 I WILL run the course of Your commandments,
… FOR You shall enlarge my heart.
Remove from me the “way” of lying, and enlarge my heart
Way: a characteristic or habitual manner (Merriam-Webster)
Enlarge: to give greater scope to; to set free (as a captive) (Merriam-Webster)
Me, His much loved
I WANT the way my mind processes life to be in agreement with Your perspective, but this goal feels elusive at times. And then I make choices I later regret. So I’m now facedown and begging You to enlighten my understanding (v.27).
The Lord:
LOVED ONE, you will experience a personal revival (v.25) as you continue seeking to understand the way of My precepts (v.27). I complete every work I begin, and I began this one in You.
LIFE offers you many choices and you have the free will to do as you please. When your soul melts from heaviness (v.28), this is a healthy sign that sin has not seared your conscience. The father of lies wants to ensnare you in false perceptions of yourself and your circumstances. You cannot escape his supernatural snares through your natural strength. Choose to look to Me despite your emotional state, as you are right now, and trust that My Spirit is leading you in the only healthy direction.
Me, His much loved
I CHOOSE You. Nothing of this world can stand up to Your truth. I believe and confess what You’ve done to set me free from the power of sin and death: Jesus.
I’M IN a painful season right now, and I’m tempted to take the easier way of lying (v.29):help me not to lie to myself or to others. Part of me wants to gloss over my difficulty and hardship and pretend all is well, though my situation stinks. Keep me with the boundaries of righteousness.
The Lord:
COMPLETE transparency is essential during this healing season, and Holy Spirit will supernaturally expose your faulty thinking. My word brings freedom from shame and condemnation. I will cleanse you from all unrighteousness as you confess your sin to Me. I am Faithful to do this. It is Who I Am.
YOUR thoughts reside in your heart. In your heart is also where I plant My wisdom. Enter into a give-give relationship with My Living Word: you open your heart completely to the divine truth that works like a 2-edged sword; and in return, the truth will enlarge your heart with peace and wisdom as Holy Spirit empowers you to open your heart even wider and receive more.
Do you see the upward spiral of this relationship?
Me, His much loved
MY HOPE just rose a notch. The world falling down around me (v.25) feels less overwhelming. Even when I don’t feel like it, I will meditate on Your wonders and Your wonderful deeds (v.27) and not on my difficult situation.
The Lord:
MY GRACE is sufficient. Do confront the sorrows and afflictions of your soul, but do not put down roots in those afflictions. Denial is not My way. Draw close to Me until your heart beats with Mine, and I will guide you through the grieving process and lift you out of it once sorrow has accomplished its purpose in your heart. Even when you don’t feel My presence, I’m still working all things together for good to you according to My purpose.
MEDITATE passionately upon the Word, not so you can check it off your to-do list, but to know Me better. I will enlarge your heart with joy as you, with genuineness of heart, lay your worries and sins at My feet.

WHY at Your feet and not in Your lap or on an altar?
The Lord:
FIRST, this is an intimate and teachable place to be. Second, because all enemies of Christ belong under His feet.

An Exhortation of the Embattled Spirit
I will not merely walk, but run the way of Your commandments, when You give me a heart that is willing. Psa 119:32 (amp)
