In Short: Unoffendable
Am I easily bothered by what people say? Or how about the malicious verbiage that one family member insists on airing at family gatherings that is subtly aimed at me?
Admit it. If you’re human, getting offended is as easy as blinking your eyes.
The world I live in is my earthly reality, but that doesn’t mean I have to live according to it. What if I lived as one who has died to the patterns and thoughts of this world? As a believer, what if I actually did “Lay aside my old self with its masquerade and disguises”?
Or I can continue to live for myself, attempting to control every situation and every person’s reactions. Ugh! How exhausting it is to be a slave to people’s actions and speech.
Okay, so I have never been a control freak, though I have lived around people who live to control. It is still my goal to become like Christ—unoffendable. Do not confuse this with being a doormat. “Unoffendable” is a proactive battle stance.
“You are always and dearly loved by God! So robe yourself with virtues of God, since you have been divinely chosen to be holy. Be merciful as you endeavor to understand others, and be compassionate, showing kindness toward all. Be gentle and humble, unoffendable in your patience with others,” Colossians 3:12 TPT.
Father in Heaven, I surrender all control to You and ask, in exchange, for a greater measure of freedom to love others with Your love. Thank you for setting the example of how to live by sending Your Son Jesus to walk the very Earth over which You created us to have dominion. In the name of Christ our Lord. Amen!
