In short: Perfunctory
You and I have gone from being nobodies in darkness to chosen treasures of Light; from slaves to having received supernatural grace to serve the God of the universe. Do I grasp how big this divine re-connection is?
Am I extremely and deeply grateful for this second birth that comes with an eternal inheritance; or am I just perfunctorily thankful?
Perfunctory: performed as a routine duty; hasty & superficial. Indifferent or apathetic.
“Since we are receiving our rights to an unshakeable kingdom we should be extremely thankful and offer God the purest worship that delights his heart as we lay down our lives in absolute surrender, filled with awe. For our God is a holy, devouring fire!“ Hebrews 12:28-29 (emphasis mine).
If you are brave enough to exchange the perfunctory for pure worship, pray with me:
Father in Heaven, You are Mighty beyond words. I ask for a revelation of Your awesomeness that will shake my world. You went to the extreme to save me, so I want to go to the extreme to worship You. Help me lay down my life in absolute surrender. In Jesus’s name. Amen.
