In short: Corrupt Confidence
Am I getting caught up in the political war? Am I giving my social media “neighbor” a piece of my mind under the bold excuse of righteous indignation? The cowardice of hiding behind a screen enables me with a corrupt confidence to throw a verbal punch, knowing the victim of my bullying can’t hit me back.
Has the violence in our cultural tainted my heart? Has it created a wedge between my raw emotions and my higher purpose?
Choose the narrower path will take me higher.
“Rejoice in the Lord always. I’ll say it again: Rejoice! Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is near. Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything … present your requests to God.” Philippians 4:4-6
Gentleness — (epieikés) “gentle” in the sense of truly fair by relaxing overly strict standards in order to keep the “spirit of the law.”
Everyone needs gentleness at a time like this. Succumbing to anxiousness will stifle my gentleness. So, I’ll stay focused on the right battle—showing gentleness—and train my tongue to obey.
Father in Heaven, You show kindness to the thankless and cruel. I repent for acting as Judge and jury against my neighbors. Please turn my stone heart to one of flesh. Help me to leave vengeance in Your hands and focus on loving my enemies. I repent from needing to be right, and I choose to live for the higher purpose, Your righteousness. In Jesus’s name. Amen
