Dangerously Comforting Words
Many classes on building relationships teach us to avoid making blanketed (generalized) statements when talking to, or about, another person. Two dangerous words — never and always — generally get us into trouble. We immediately lose an argument the second we say, “But you always say that, and you never do this…” Never? Really?
But with God, these dangerous words always apply.
A while back, I was soaking in the Lord’s presence during prayer and I sensed, to a new depth, how easy it is to love Him. God has never made it difficult to have a relationship with Him. But isn’t it curious, if not remarkable, to think that the Lord of Heaven and Earth could also be easy to love?
While in that prayerful moment, a familiar song crossed my mind, and I sang softly, “I could sing of Your love forever … ” The Holy Spirit also brought to mind the following blanketed statements for me to ponder:
He is easy to love because He never lies. I can always rely on Him.
He is easy to love because He is pure in every way, every thought, every word, and everything He does. I never have to doubt His thoughts toward me.
He is easy to love because He never hides His true self from me. He wants me to see only His genuine Person. I never have to wonder if He’s wearing a mask.
He is easy to love because He is always gentle, always kind. Nobody treats me as respectfully as He does. Ever.
He is easy to love because His mind is always sound. I’ve never met any person as absolutely stable as my Lord.
He is easy to love because His emotions always stay intact, He never falls apart. I may feel a bit crazy sometimes, but He never does.
God is easy to love, and to be in His presence is to be in the very atmosphere of unfailing affection. My heart is safe, so incredibly safe, when I’m with Him. And then He applies the dangerous word “every” to my life, and I fall to my knees …
“Yes, God is more than ready to overwhelm me with every form of grace, so that I will have more than enough of everything—every moment and in every way. He will make me overflow with abundance in every good thing I do.” (Personalized)
2 Corinthians 9:8 TPT
Does the ease of knowing God in this way bring comfort to you, as well?
Do you now need courage to embrace everything the Lord of Heaven offers you?
Father in Heaven, thank You for sending Jesus to show us how to truly love. Bring me to the place of knowing You intimately until Your divine affection flows freely between us. Show me how to always live in the overflow of Your abundance. In Jesus’s name. Amen
Sowing Seeds of Bravery to Love Dangerously
…If you ask me why I love him so…
Song of Songs 5:16 TPT
it’s because there is none like him to me.
Everything about him fills me with holy desire!
And now he is my beloved—my friend forever.
